Truck driver health and safety

Truck drivers face a disproportionately high risk for fatal crash-related injuries and for serious health disorders. The 2004 fatality rate for U.S. heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers was 48.2 per 100,000 workers, approximately 11 times the rate for the general worker population.

This industry group provides general freight trucking inclucding truckload (TL) and less-than-truckload (LTL), to local and long-distance customers.

These three industries combine for approximately 2800 accounts reporting hours in Washington State.  Of these 2800 accounts 37% have a compensable claim and 43% have an accepted workers' compensation claim in a nine year study period 1997- 2005.
